I have also completed a Foundation Course with Aquatic Mentors and Deaf Children Australia. In addition to being a fully qualified Austswim Teacher, I am also a qualified Austswim Assessor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Story Behind E.D.S.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Swimming has always been a big part of my life. However, in my early teens, I was diagnosed with <strong>Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (E.D.S)<\/strong>, a connective tissue disorder that affects the skin, joints, and blood vessels. I have <strong>Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS)<\/strong>, which causes increased joint flexibility and instability. Growing up, this often led to injuries and ongoing pain, ultimately forcing me to step away from the sport I loved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Like many teenagers, I wanted to find a job, but my condition made it difficult to sit or stand for extended periods without discomfort. Determined to find a career that suited both my abilities and my passion, I turned to swimming. Teaching in the water offered a low-impact environment, and my swimming background made it a natural fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, I completed my first Austswim course, and that decision changed the course of my life. Since then, I have continued to expand my knowledge and qualifications, becoming certified in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Infant and Preschool Aquatics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Teacher of Competitive Strokes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Teacher of Adults<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Teacher of Access and Inclusion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Emily Drummond Swimming?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">When choosing a name for my business, I realised that the initials <strong>E.D.S<\/strong> were the same as those of the condition that inspired my journey into swimming instruction\u2014<strong>Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome<\/strong>. It felt like the perfect way to acknowledge the challenges that shaped my path and led me to a career I truly love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">You may also notice the zebra featured in my logo. The zebra is the internationally recognised symbol of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the rare disease community. It represents resilience, individuality, and the reminder that every person&#8217;s journey is unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Today, I am passionate about helping swimmers of all ages and abilities develop confidence in the water, improve their skills, and achieve their personal goals in a supportive, inclusive, and enjoyable learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong>Emily Drummond Swimming (E.D.S)<\/strong>, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. Creating a positive learning experience is at the heart of everything we do, and we strive to ensure that every lesson is both enjoyable and empowering for our students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The safety and wellbeing of children is our highest priority. We take child protection extremely seriously and recognise the important role it plays in a child&#8217;s ability to learn, grow, and build confidence. To support this commitment, we have a comprehensive Child Protection Policy in place, which is available on our website for parents and guardians to review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">We also understand that every child is unique. Children learn at different rates, have different strengths, and respond to different teaching approaches. At E.D.S, we tailor our lessons to meet the individual needs of each swimmer, recognising that what works for one child may not work for another.
