I have been a swimming teacher for 8 years and have received all my teaching qualifications through Austswim and Royal lifesaving Australia as well as completing a foundation course with Aquatic mentors and Deaf Children Australia. As well as being a fully qualified Austswim teacher, I am also a qualified Austswim assessor.

A little back story of E.D.S, I come from a swimming background however, I had to give up swimming in my early teens as I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome or E.D.S for short. E.D.S is a connective tissue disorder that affects the skin, joints and blood vessels. I have type 3 E.D.S or H.E.D.S which is the hypermobility type, this means that I am extremely flexible and was constantly hurting myself as a child and a teen. As a teen I really wanted a job but because of my E.D.S I wasn’t able to have a normal job because I couldn’t sit down or stand up for a prolonged time without being in pain. With this being the case, I decided that I should look into becoming a swimming teacher, as it is low impact because it’s in the water and I come from a swimming background. So, in 2016 I went and did my first Austswim course and the rest is history. Since then, I have acquired the rest of my Austswim qualifications (Infant and Preschool Aquatics, Teacher towards Competitive Strokes, Teacher of Adults and Teacher of Access and Inclusion).

When coming up with the name Emily Drummond Swimming I realised that the initials E.D.S are exactly the same as the condition I have, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is the whole reason I became a swimming teacher in the first place! In regards to the zebra in my logo, I chose to have the zebra because it is the mascot for Ehlers Danos Syndrome.

Welcome to Emily Drummond Swimming or E.D.S for short.
